the lecture was about an introduction and it included part one from the book: ch1 and ch2

Dr. Islam didn’t explain chapter 2 stuff since it’s some math that we should know a good portion of it. anyways, I’ll try to cover it :)

he also skipped the last part of chapter 1 which was about trust and went through it quick

update: Dr. Ayman explained the number theory stuff, so it’s included but sadly didn’t summarized well lec 3 - ch 2 - number theory

CHAPTER 1: INFORMATION AND NETWORK SECURITY CONCEPTS

Information security: This term refers to preservation of confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) of information. In addition, other properties, such as authenticity, accountability, nonrepudiation, and reliability can also be involved.

Network security: This term refers to protection of networks and their service from unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure, and provision of assurance that the network performs its critical functions correctly and there are no harmful side effects.

1.1 Security Objectives

The cybersecurity definition introduces three key objectives that are at the heart of information and network security (CIA):

1. Confidentiality

Only authorized people can access information.

2. Integrity

Information and systems aren't changed without authorization.

3. Availability

Authorized users can access systems and data when needed.
